Lower Thirds are animated backgrounds which are great for dynamic titles. Presuming your video editing software has multiple timeline tracks, the lower third sits above the main video track, and the text element can be placed on the track above the lower third.

These lower thirds are available for PAL and NTSC formats, both in standard (4x3) and widescreen (16x9) aspect ratios.

They are encoded using the Quicktime Animation codec, which supports transparency. You will need Quicktime installed on your computer, and your editing software will need to support alpha transparency. Most software supporting these features will deal correctly with the video once placed on your timeline, however with some software (notably Sony Vegas and Vegas Movie Studio) you will need to tell the software to use the alpha channel for transparency.
